Outreach Workshops

ART BRASIL provides high quality arts and cultural workshops within the community and education which aim to develop skills, increase confidence and self-esteem, promote social inclusion and cultural awareness.

THE ARTISTS

Our Outreach Team is led by Professor Leandro De Oliveira, a specialist in Brazilian arts from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Joined by a team of professional dance artists and musicians trained in Brazilian art forms both in Brazil and the UK, our team has a wealth of experience working in the community and educational settings.

WORKSHOPS

Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form which fuses dance, martial art and music. Developed in the 18th Century by African slaves in Brazil, Capoeira was a means for slaves to preserve their culture and overcome oppression. Capoeira today is practised worldwide and is recognised as promoting respect, understanding and embracing multi-culturalism.

This culturally rich art form is an exciting way to engage children, young people and adults in structured physical activity. Workshops will help participants develop their co-ordination and team work skills as well increasing confidence and self-esteem.

Afro-Brazilian Dance

Experience styles from traditional African rooted dances to vibrant Carnival Samba! Workshops focus on developing skills in movement, co-ordination and creativity.

Afro-Brazilian Music

Music workshops explore a range of Afro-Brazilian styles from traditional drumming and song, to exciting Samba beats. Workshops are an enjoyable and accessible way to develop a variety of musical skills. All instruments for music workshops are provided.

Language

Fun and educational language workshops introduce Brazilian Portuguese as well as the opportunity to learn more about Brazilian people and their culture.

‘Viva Brazil!’ residencies

Residencies (2 days+) combine all these workshops to provide an all round cross-curricular Brazilian experience tailored to suit the needs of your group. Working intensively alongside professional artists participants will engage in Brazilian arts and cultural activities which can lead to a final performance.

If you're interested in booking a workshop or residency, please contact us.
