ABOUT ART BRASIL

ART BRASIL is a Not-For-Profit Collective of professional artists based in Staffordshire who are passionate about sharing Brazilian arts and culture. We believe in the positive social impact that Brazil's rich cultural heritage promotes.

We are committed to bringing children, young people and adults together from all walks of life and offering new opportunities through Brazilian Arts.

We provide high quality arts and cultural workshops within the community and education which aim to develop skills, increase confidence and self esteem, promote social inclusion and cultural awareness.

OUTREACH

WORKSHOPS & RESIDENCIES

Our team of artists deliver Outreach Workshops and Residencies. Brazilian Dance Workshops range from Capoeira, traditional African rooted dances to vibrant Carnival Samba! Music workshops can range from traditional Afro-Brazilian drumming and song to exciting Samba Beats. We also offer workshops in Brazilian Portuguese and the history of Brazil, it's people and music. ART BRASIL has worked in schools within the councils of Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Crewe & Nantwich and Cannock Chase.

COMMUNITY

CLASSES & COURSES

Our Capoeira Courses offer access to affordable exercise and arts activities and aim to increase confidence, promote social inclusion and bridge generational gaps. The courses are designed to give an insight into the movement, music and culture of capoeira. Our Capoeira Kids! project provides the opportunity for children and young people to get active in a fun and exciting way. Brazilian Music Courses offer the opportunity for people to learn new musical skills and develop technique on traditional Afro-Brazilian instruments and singing. Our Brazilian Dance Workshops engage young people and adults in energic styles from traditional Afro-Brazilian to Carnival Samba!

PERFORMANCES

We are available for performances at community and corporate events. We regularly perform at local events such as the Burslem Arts Festival and Regent Theatre's annual Youth Dance Festival. We have also had the opportunity to perform at regional and national events, such as "Drum Camp", Music Worldwide's renowned Annual World Music & Dance Festival.

Professor Leandro & The History of ART BRASIL

ART BRASIL was founded by Leandro De Oliveira, a Capoeira Professor from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Leandro has worked in Brazil, Japan and the UK delivering Brazilian movement/dance and music workshops.

Leandro started his training in 1992 with Mestre Do Norte at Capoeira Raizes Da Senzala in Sao Paulo. After graduating, he moved to Japan where he taught capoeira & Brazilian percussion for 5 years. He returned to Brazil in 2004 to open his own capoeira academy which he oversees on his regular visits back to Brazil. Since moving to the UK in 2005, Leandro has delivered outreach work and performed around the country within education and community settings.

Leandro is ART BRASIL's Lead Artist and leads our team of artists in our Community, Outreach & Performance work.
