About Us

Capoeira ART BRASIL is committed to bringing children, young people and adults together from all walks of life and offering new opportunities through Brazilian Arts.

We specialise in Brazilian Music & Dance, and in particular, the exciting art form of Capoeira - an Afro-Brazilian fusion of movement, dance, play, music and culture.

We are passionate about Brazilian Arts and believe in the positive social impact that Brazil's rich cultural heritage promotes.

What We Do

We hold regular Capoeira Classes which offer access to affordable exercise and arts activities and aim to increase confidence, promote social inclusion and bridge generational gaps.

Capoeira Kids! is a project for kids aged 4-8 which provides the opportunity for kids and their parents to get active in a fun and playful way.

Other work include our Brazilian Music Workshops and Samba Cultura, Staffordshire's only Samba Band of musicians and dancers.

Capoeira ART BRASIL has a team of artists who deliver Outreach Workshops and Residencies within educational settings including schools within the councils of Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Crewe & Nantwich and Cannock Chase.

Performances are also a large part of our work, performing regularly at local events such as the Burslem Arts Festival and Regent Theatre's annual Youth Dance Festival. We have also had the opportunity to perform at regional and national events, such as "Drum Camp", Music Worldwide's renowned Annual World Music & Dance Festival.

Professor Leandro

Our community projects are delivered by Capoeira Professor, Leandro De Oliveira, from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Professor Leandro started capoeira in 1992 with Mestre Do Norte at Capoeira Raizes Da Senzala in Sao Paulo. In 2000, he graduated and shortly after moved to Japan. There he joined Mestre Graveto in his school, ART BRASIL as an assistant teacher. In 2004, he returned to Brazil and opened his own school continuing the name ART BRASIL, providing free classes for the local young people.

In 2005 he moved to the UK and founded Capoeira ART BRASIL in Stoke-on-Trent. The group was formally established as a community group by a committee of his students in April 2007.  During winter 2007, Leandro returned to Brazil and in January 2008, was graduated to Professor by his mestre, Mestre Do Norte in Sao Paulo.
